The European Mediterranean and Middle Eastern Conference on Information Systems (EMCIS) is an internationally recognised annual conference dedicated to advancing the Information Systems (IS) discipline. Established in 2004 by Brunel University's ISEing research group, EMCIS has grown into a premier event, drawing academics, professionals, and researchers from around the globe.

EMCIS serves as a platform for discussing technical, organisational, business, and social issues related to Information Technology. With a strong focus on sound research methodologies and measurable outcomes, the conference promotes impactful contributions that advance the IS field.

A distinctive feature of EMCIS is its rotating location, collaborating with local universities to enrich the conference experience and encourage global knowledge exchange. These partnerships ensure a diverse and inclusive environment where participants can forge connections and explore innovative ideas.

Key highlights of the 2023 edition include:

  • Publication of conference proceedings in the Springer Lecture Notes in Business Information Processing series, indexed by ISI Proceedings, DBLP, EI, and Scopus.
  • Opportunities for selected papers to be extended for journal publication.
  • Distinguished keynotes addressing global and interdisciplinary topics.
  • A welcoming atmosphere that facilitates engagement among attendees, from established professionals to PhD students.

In 2023, SmartCHANGE, represented by the University of Piraeus Research Centre (UPRC), participated in EMCIS, leveraging the event to foster collaborations and engage with the IS and AI research communities.
