Borut Jug obtained his MD (general medicine) and PhD (biomedical sciences) from the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, and later pursued postgraduate training at the University of California at Los Angeles/UCLA (cardiac CT), University of Zurich (heart failure) and the London School of Economics and Political Sciences (health economics, outcomes research and management in cardiovascular sciences). He is Head of the Department of Vascular Medicine (University medical centre in Ljubljana) and professor of medicine (University of Ljubljana) and serves as co-chair of the Working group for preventive cardiology of the Slovenian Society of Cardiology.
His current professional and research interests include cardiovascular disease prevention and health promotion, cardiac rehabilitation, traditional and novel risk factors, lipid metabolism disorders, atherosclerosis and thrombosis (imaging, functional appraisal and preclinical diagnosis, biomarkers and prognostic appraisal, disease prevention, disease management and patient empowerment), and the impact of socio-economic factors on cardiovascular diseases.
